Cape Coral Community Foundation makes national impression
Executives and philanthropy leaders challenged to invest in leadership development
Cape Coral Community Foundation convened a group of national foundation executives and philanthropy leaders on April 23 – 25 at the Westin Hotel in Cape Coral. The Philanthropy Experts and Leaders Academy provided programming and resources for those in the most senior staff role at their organizations.professionals and senior program talent are at the heart of these systems.
The biggest concern for foundation executives and philanthropy leaders was that nonprofit boards and executive directors do not invest in their people. There is a lack of staff development and training relevant to key leadership positions.
"The challenges facing nonprofits is not lack of funding, it is a lack of leadership development. Essentially, you have nonprofits raising funds for programs being led by people who are not well-trained to do their jobs effectively," says Dr. Tina Dupree, Corporate Foundation Consultant and former Vice President of Church's Chicken Foundation.
There are many nonprofit leaders who feel isolated and alone. They feel overburdened by the pressure to host fundraising events that wear them out with little or no financial return. They are struggling to find program volunteers, board members and raise enough money to meet their overhead expenses.
"The Cape Coral Community Foundation is no longer a best-kept secret, it is a game changer. I will partner with Michael Chatman and the Cape Coral Community Foundation to offer resources to support their nonprofit leadership and board member development program, as well as support their Fundraising Institute program to create a pipeline for fundraising talent who can offer more than plan a fundraising event or write a grant. The goal is to create sustainable programs and revenue models", says Mary Wong, President, Office Depot Foundation.

A Program for Nonprofits Seeking Grants from the Cape Coral Community Foundation
Navigating the complex funder-nonprofit relationship is vital to mission success. Often, it seems, nonprofits do the asking, reporting, and proving, while foundations sit in positions to say yes or no, how much, when, and what's required. Receiving a grant from a foundation may seem like a complicated process, we make it simple and easy. We are one of the largest grantmakers in Cape Coral.
We invite nonprofits to join us for a 2-hour program dedicated to helping everyone build a better working relationship with the Cape Coral Community Foundation and increase the impact of your work.
In addition to learning about to apply for a grant, and our funding priorities for the 2017-2018 grant cycle, you will learn new revenue models to fund your mission. If your funding comes primarily grants and fundraising events, you need to attend this session for an open honest conversation.
Sustainability is a popular but often misunderstood buzzword in the nonprofit sector. It is not just about having enough money to pay staff, keeping the lights on and having a little extra to do a few programs.
Learn what you can do to increase your organization's competitiveness and strengthen its financial health in the current economic climate.
Our featured speaker is Christin Collins, one of the leading voices in Southwest Florida philanthropy, and a member of the Global Center for Generosity at Cape Coral Community Foundation Speakers Bureau.
Christin's leadership roles with the Lee Health Foundation and Southwest Florida Wine & Food Fest have helped raise millions of dollars for The Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida.
Christin will share with nonprofits How to Build a Bridge from Fundraising Events to Major Gift Donors.
Who Should Attend? Nonprofit organizations: Those responsible for funder relationships and fundraising (executive directors are strongly encouraged to attend; senior development staff and board members are welcome if the executive director is unavailable).
This program is generously supported by the Community Impact Fund at the Cape Coral Community Foundation and The Fundraising Institute.
