Thank you to those who joined us as we honored the inaugural winners of the Power Players Professional Advisor Awards at a breakfast reception at the beautiful waterside Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village on Monday, January 8, 2018.

Seven distinguished Southwest Florida Professional Advisors were recognized during this premiere Cape Coral Community Foundation event. Each of these Power Players has been identified and confirmed as being a top advisor who performs their duties with integrity and honesty and makes a substantial impact in Southwest Florida.

Meet the 2018 Power Players

Financial Advisor

Tom Uhler, Uhler and Vertich Financial Planners, LLC

Tom Uhler is a founder of and principal of Uhler and Vertich Financial Planners, has over three decades of experience in financial services in Southwest Florida and has a special interest in assisting non-profit organizations in their planned giving efforts. Tom volunteers for a number of Lee County groups, helping them identify, educate and establish long-term relationships with donors and is a frequent speaker on financial planning, investing, and charitable giving. He serves as Branch Manager of the Sanibel Raymond James Financial Services office.

Tom is a leader in the community through his roles in numerous Southwest Florida organizations including the United Way of Lee County, the Southwest Florida Symphony Orchestra, the Florida Cancer Specialists Foundation Board, the Kiwanis Club of Sanibel-Captiva Islands, the Southwest Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the Sanibel-Captiva Orchid Society.

Tom is an Eagle Scout and lifetime member of the National Eagle Scout Association. He was honored to have been chosen as the 2011-2012 Campaign Chair for the United Way of Lee, Hendry and Glades, as Citizen of the Year by the Sanibel-Captiva Chamber of Commerce, as Hero of the Year in 2013 by the Fort Myers News-Press, as 2010 Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida’s Lee County Laureate, and the American Red Cross’ Legacy Award winner in 2013.


Keith Veres, HBK CPAs & Consultants

In extending his role beyond his responsibilities as an HBK® CPAs & Consultants (HBK) accounting Principal, Keith Veres exemplifies HBK’s transition from accounting firm to holistic financial services provider. As director of HBK’s emerging Corporate Finance business along with his status as an investment banking representative of a third party investment banking broker-dealer, he helps HBK clients looking to raise capital, acquire businesses or sell their business through a coordinated succession planning process. And in his separate capacity as an HBKS® Wealth Advisors representative, Mr. Veres provides the comprehensive and critical financial support owners and operators of small and mid-sized businesses require to grow their companies and secure their financial futures for themselves, their families and their businesses.

Deeply involved in his community, he is active in the Cape Coral Construction Industry Association, Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce, Cape Coral Community Foundation and Lee County Building Industry Association.


Dorothy Blasingim, Regions Bank

Dorothy Blasingim is the Fort Myers Consumer Banking Manager for Regions Bank. The Consumer Bank has responsibilities for delivering world-class service and meeting the banking needs of consumer and small businesses. The area consists of 13 branches in Lee and Charlotte Counties. Dorothy joined Regions in 2003, bringing over 15 years of banking experience to the organization and has since become a four-time Chairman’s Club winner. In June 2017, she was recognized as a Regions Top Performer.

Dorothy is highly active within the community, currently engaged with Make-A-Wish, United Way and Junior Achievement.


Guy E. Whitesman, Henderson, Franklin, Starnes & Holt, PA

Guy Whitesman is an active member and the past chair of the Tax Section of The Florida Bar. He is Board Certified in Tax Law and is a past chairman of Tax Law Certification Committee which oversees the board certification process. Guy is also chair of Henderson Franklin’s Mergers & Acquisitions, Business Organizations & Planning, Tax, and Intellectual Property practice areas. He concentrates his practice in mergers and acquisitions, business organization operations and planning, taxation, estate planning and health care law. Guy frequently writes and speaks on issues regarding taxation, business, and estate planning to members of the public, as well as to accountants and attorneys through Florida Bar-sponsored continuing legal education courses.

As an active community member, Guy has served in guiding leadership roles in numerous organizations such as Community Cooperative, Inc., the Jewish Community Foundation of Southwest Florida, Southwest Florida Community Foundation, Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium and the University of Florida Law Center Association, Inc.

Donna Caruso, New York Life Insurance Company

Donna Caruso started her career as a financial advisor with the New York Life Insurance Company in 1990 and formed DJC Insurance & Financial Services in order to provide a complete financial services agency, as she is also a Registered Representative with NYLIFE Securities LLC. Her career gives her the opportunity and honor to make a difference in her clients’ lives planning for financial protection, growth and security for today and into the future. Donna has been recognized for her focus on assisting her clients to plan for a secure retirement.

She has earned her advanced designations of Chartered Life Underwriter, Chartered Financial Consultant, a lifetime membership with the Million Dollar Round Table, including Court of the Table in 2006, membership in the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and both President & Executive Councils with the New York Life Insurance Company, as well as a Lifetime Council membership serving on their elite Agents Advisory Council in New York City.

Donna believes in giving back and does so as a member or through leadership roles in Impact Initiative, Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce, Gold Coast Rotary, Giving Alliance of Women, PACE Center for Girls, Lee County, the Cape Coral Community Foundation and Valerie’s House of SWFL.

Gary Aubuchon, Miloff Aubuchon Realty Group

As a community, business and legislative trailblazer, Gary Aubuchon’s exceptional leadership skills have distinguished him in Southwest Florida. A successful entrepreneur, Gary started a homebuilding company in his living room and developed it into the diversified and successful Aubuchon Team of Companies. His dedication to improving the lives of those in the community has earned him such honors as Cape Coral Citizen of the Year, Lee County Humanitarian of the Year and membership in the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame. For six years he served as a State Representative in the Florida House where he quickly ascended into key leadership positions, including serving two years as Chairman of the Rules and Calendar Committee.

Amy McGarry, Amy McGarry Law Office, PL

Amy’s legal practice began in Wadsworth, Ohio where she had a general practice that included estate planning, probate and guardianship. Amy was a court-appointed guardian for several of Medina County’s indigent elderly citizens. In 1999, she became licensed in the State of Florida, further being able to assist Ohio snowbirds with their Florida legal issues. In 2004, Amy and her husband, Ben, and their two daughters moved to Cape Coral. Amy continued her sole practice focusing on estate planning, probate administration, trust administration, Medicaid planning, and guardianship.

Amy serves her community in the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys, the Florida Association of Women’s Lawyers, and as a frequent speaker for continuing education for National Business Institute, Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys and Florida State Guardianship Association/SW Chapter.
